Weight Loss and Elections

My daughter and I were talking about elections. Hillary, Obama – the whole shabang.. I was explaining how important it is to listen to what politicians have to say, yet take it with a grain of salt.
“They will promise and promise, there is a good chance, however, that what they promise will not happen.”.
She looked crashed. “Are they lying to us?” she asked, “why do they promise if they are not going to do it?”
Good question! Why do people promise things only to quietly ignore their own words? Make others happy in the short term? Didn’t mean what they said? I’m sure there are many reasons why.
I’m guilty of it… We all are.
The core habit that will make us and help reach all of our goals, is the ability to commit to our word.
To lose weight, for example, you first must give yourself a promise that you will workout at least 3 times a week, eat better and be more active.
To reach that goal, weight loss in this case, you must keep it.
Giving your word is easy – you have to do it once. Keeping it requires a bit more energy. You must keep it every day, every minute.
Following 4 steps/habits will make keeping your word as easy as a nap in a park.
- Make it a habit. Whether promising your wife to take out the garbage or telling your kids that you will show them a magic trick in 15 minutes. Do it! Every single time you keep your word it builds your credibility and self esteem in your own eyes(and everybody else’s).
- Say that you will do something ONLY if you are going to do it
- Thinking of breaking a promise? Want to sit on a couch instead of taking a walk? Stick with it by thinking of why you are doing it in the first place. Think of the outcome as if you already have it(fit and healthy body, for example).
- Make it fun! Promised yourself to lose weight? Join a fun class with much support. Get a friend to do it with you. Make it fun.
Remember that where you are now is the result of your thoughts and actions from the past.
Your future depends on what you do now.
