Functional training, the tale of

Functional training is one of the recent buzz words. Function, functional… what’s the point?

Rehabilitation, prevention and promotion of better posture, alignment. Improved alignment and posture lead in turn to superior body mechanics, better leverage and increase in performance.

Watch Carrie and Julie climb up the swing set. Easy? Majority of guys can not to it.

Why can these girls do so with ease at the end of a tough kettlebell workout? They are functional!

How does your current training translates to your everyday life? How functional are you?

I personally know guys who are into bodybuilding and created great bodies for themselves yet when they walk around a mall with their girlfriends for an hour or so – their back is killing them(I was one of those guys, by the way)?

Strength? May be. Function? Not really.

When you choose your exercise program, pick carefully. Weight loss and better fitness are decent goals but if functional training is not part of your regimen you are missing a vital piece of the puzzle.

Examples of functional exercises:

  • Kettlebell Training
  • Use Swiss Balls, wobble boards
  • Obstacle course training (go play with your kids on a playground
  • Sandbag training
  • Resistance tubes, rings

Go out there and get functional!
