Go Michelangelo McBurney! (Lost 6 inches in 5 months)

Michelangelo McBurney has been a part of Workout IQ program for about 5 months now.

As we were “doing something useful” at the 9am morning kettlebell Michelangelo shared that he lost 6 inches!

It’s amazing how progress creeps up on you.

Keep in mind that this was done without any diet.
We worked on little things like

  • Replacing sodas with water
  • Eating more frequently(more snacks)
  • Eating slower(taking at least 30 minutes to eat)
  • Listening to your body as you eat.

I attribute Michelangelo’s success to his consistency. We workout at least 3 times a week. Every week.

Michelangelo is also great at listening to his body and communicating to me how he feels that day.

It’s easy to overdo and overtrain(read about Overtraining). Always listen to your body.

Workouts are based around Russian Kettlebell Training but we do throw in other fun stuff to keep thing supah-fun-tastic(football, obstacle course work, soccer, basketball).

Michelangelo - congratulations and lets keep on going! Get ready to buy a whole new set of clothes.

Saturday Class is on Sunday this week

Saturday class is on Sunday this week. I’m sorry. Family matters!

Both of my kids(Ben and Sylvia) earned auditions with Disney talent agents. The agent wants both parents present. So exciting! (No, we are not moving to LA)

Hey, may be they’ll sign me too! (can I pass for a 7 year old?)

I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Memorial Day Workout and Results

Long weekend and it was wonderful to see so many friendly faces this Monday.

Adam - welcome back from New York. We missed you!
Akiko and Paul - keep up the great job. For now you can count on more of the same: Akiko - try doing postural exercises at home. Paul - you are doing great. Lets work on upper body strength and get to 10 pull-ups!
Michelangelo - super workout. It was a medium intensity day for you and you did great. Running was awesome. You are looking strong.
Paula - another PR! You did a mini-swings! Your knees and hips didn’t allow that before. It is very exciting to see progress. How are you feeling after doing that?
Mary - you’re making progress every day! We did jogging! As I trace back, I’m amazed at the progress that you’ve made. Great job.
Carrie - always good to see you. That was a sweet workout that Zach put you through. How do you feel?
Murad - you’re the man! Stronger and leaner than ever. How did you like front squats? :-)
Vi - I don’t see you in the morning anymore.. are you switching to evening classes? Great workout!

Please welcome Akiko and Paul to Workout IQ

Saturday morning was surprisingly chilly but that didn’t stop us from getting warm up and doing something useful.

I’d like to welcome Akiko and Paul to Workout IQ program. They got a first taste of “something useful”. It is good to have you as a part of the program - I know that you will experience a difference in how you feel.

Michelangelo McBurney did an awesome job with a ladder(10,9,8,7,6,5,4,3,2,1) of Jerks with 20kg kettlebell. Great job. That was a total of 55 jerks! What a way to start the workout.

Carrie Stewart and Julie Passaglia were a no-show and I hope that you guys did something useful instead. Remember - consistency! I will see you Monday for a doze of something useful. Be ready!

Steven Borelli - I’m proud of you, buddy! You did great today. A healthy doze of snatches, climbing, postural exercises, hanging and finally, Workout IQ Saturday breakfast. Good stuff.

Mary Burak - everyday you’re making progress. Consistency is paying off! Your snatches looked great today. Looking strong! P.S. Thank you for a tasty fruit salad - it was a great addition to the Workout IQ’s Saturday breakfast. You’re awesome!

Vi Keister it is good to have you back. A week in Vegas and today you haven’t missed a step. See you on Monday for more fun.

Michael Castellano. Super-fun-tastic! I’m glad that you liked playing with 20kg kettlebell today. Great workout. You main goal now is to start eating breakfast. It is the most important meal of the day, you know.

Gail Darcy - you progress is remarkable. Two weeks ago you could not walk(For those who don’t know - Gail fell down and hurt her knee) and now you’re walking and Monday we will try kettlebell workout. Get ready!

Remarkable Thursday

We had a remarkable Thurdsay, May 22. New personal bests, interesting insights, good times!

Julie Passaglia enjoyed yet another Personal Best - 8 minutes of swings with a 24kg!!! We did it in sets of 5 with 15 second breaks. Remarkable!

Michael Castelliano reminded me how important it is to unwind and focus on yourself.

Remember to turn off your cellphones/PDAs/Blackberries/other electronic leashes. This hour is your hour.

Spend this time on you. Focus on your body. Tune in and listen. Decompress. Unwind. Re-balance.

Gail Darcy Carrington is almost back from her injury! This is yet another testimonial that postural correction works. Through re-alignment exercises we were able to take Gail Darcy from constant pain, and not being able to walk to walking normally and being ready for kettlebell action. Gail - I’m proud of your consistency and optimism. Keep up the great work! Remarkable, I think so.

Michelangelo McBurney improved his personal best as well. 10 minutes of swings with 24kg bell. 5 minutes of Jerks with two 16kg.

Your progress is outstanding and results are evident. Proud of you!

200 Kettlebell Swings and I’m not even tired…

May 21st, 2008: supah-fun-tastic workout!

Everyone did an outstanding job today:

  • Mary did 5 sets of snatches with 12kg kettlebell and ran for the first time in 10 years!
  • Didi: great work on double push/presses. Stay strong!
  • Gail Darcy: Your posture is improving everyday. It was amazing to watch you walk today without crutches. Very exciting.
  • Walker! What can I say? Great, great workout. 100 16kg swings with each arm(200 total). You made it look easy! Proud of you!

Function? Yes, please!

Great workouts yesterday.

I am very proud of Mike Sly for dragging himself to the 6:15am class. Way to go!

Most of the training we do in the program is functional in nature. Functional implies that the training that we do somehow translates to everyday life. It is rehabilitative and preventative in nature.

After a tough kettlebell workout, Julie and Carrie demonstrated the functional strength:

Go Kristina!

Kristina Rockhold - a Workout IQ success

Kristina Rockhold has been a part of Workout IQ program for a little over a month. Never had experience with russian kettlebells, but dove in head first and got awesome results!

Kristina’s success:

  • Lost 6.5lb in 30 days of kettlebell training
  • Lost 10 1/4 inches in just the same 30 days!
  • Moved up to 12kg kettlebell for swings, clean and presses
