Workout IQ Postural Therapy
Solution for chronic pain
At Workout IQ we help you to be pain free by using Muscle Balance and Function(R) Method.
We can provide relief and elliminate pain associated with Osteoarthritis, chronic back pain, degenerative disk desease, stress/tension headaches, even complex disorders like carpal tunnel syndrome or TMJ.
How it works:Muscle Balance and Function(R) is a unique method of restoring function to the human body.
Using the fundamentals of physics and biomechanics the program's evaluation process reveals muscular imbalances that cause postural misalignment, compensated motion, and injury.
Postural realignment is accomplished by applying a progression of properly sequenced, individualized exercises. Read 'Why Posture is Important'.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: Is there more to correct posture than just standing up straight with your shoulders back?
A: There is much more to posture than standing tall with shoulders back. At Workout IQ we address all deviations from the 'ideal' posture such as hip and torso rotation/counter rotation, femur/ankle rotations, hip tilts, hip elevations, shoulder elevation/rouding, forward neck('silicon valley' neck), scoliosis, medial/lateral knees, faulty load bearing and more. Read 'Why Posture is Important'.
Q: What would cause poor posture?
A: Injuries(breaking a leg, spinal injuries), inactivity(sitting 8 hours a day at a desk), uncorrected repetative movements. Read 'How to Battle Bad Posture' to learn an insight into what causes bad posture.
Q: What are the possible effects of poor posture?
A: Poor posture leads to poor body mechanics, decreased body functionality and pain. In other words, with poor posture your body doesn't know how to move correctly and efficiently. Compensations occur and pain follows.
Example: Due to past injuries and inactivity, Jane has an elevated hip and medial knee. She wants to get in shape and starts running. She starts to run but her body mechanics are poor and as she moves she puts too much pressure on the hip and knee joints. Much compensation is taking place. Because of the faulty alignment/posture extra pressure is put on certain muscles and joints. Pain and injury will follow.
To avoid such problems, proper body alignment and body mechanics must be restored.
Q: When someone comes to you for the first time, how is their posture evaluated?
A: A postural evaluation is designed to reveal any deviations from the 'ideal' posture.
We will spend time talking about your symptoms and goals.
Next, you will stand with your eyes closed to show your natural stance. Digital pictures will be taken from the front, back and both sides so that you can see what I see and to keep track of progress.
All postural deviations will be recorded. A postural program will be designed based on what the evaluation reveals.
Q: Does everyone do the same exercises?
A: Everyone will have a different program and different exercises since everyone has different posture, symptoms and goals.
Q: Will I need to buy any special equipment to do the exercises?
A: You do not need to buy any special equipment. You will need a belt, a pillow or a yoga block.
Q: How frequently should the exercises be performed?
A: Exercises should be done at least 5 days a week. You do exercises at home. Office visits are for updates or tune ups only.
Q: How do you know when it is time to change the program?
Your postural program is like a fitness program. We are training and re-education muscles. As the body adapts to the program and exercises, program must be changed in order to keep the progress going.
If an exercise becomes easy and you no longer feel it's effect, it is likely that you used it up and need a more stimulating exercise in it's place.
Q: How does this technique differ from other methods, e.g., chiropractic, Alexander technique, feldenkrais, rolfing, etc.?
A: MBF(r) method re-educates muscles on how to function properly. Muscles are attached to joints - as muscle balance is restored, joints and skeletal structure are also affected.
With MBF(r) you are responsible for your healing. Do exercises - get better. It's that simple!
No conscious effort is needed to maintain good posture - your body simply works better without you having to think about it.
Pain relief and better function are achieved without drugs, manipulation or surgery.
Most people experience immediate relief and increase in function.
Q: I don't live near your office. Can I still sign up for posture correction?
A: You can do the program even if you live in a different state or country.
Submit 4 pictures of yourself standing. Front, back and both sides. Bear feet, wear shorts so that knees are visible.
Men - no shirt or wear form fitting shirt
Women - sports bra or wear form fitting shirt
Based on the photographs, symptoms and goals a program will be created for you.
